Stormy’s Diary - July 5, 1950
Johnny Schampera and Larry Foster came over to watch the basket ball game on television. It was the first time I ever met Larry. Jack Pitchers was supposed to come but couldn’t because he was at Lake Wilderness.

Stormy’s Diary - July 4, 1950
Today mother left me in the basement for a long time. When Richard Got home I had to go do my business. At night when he got home from dance class, I played with him. I heard him say that he danced with M***** 3 times.

Try as I might, I cannot decipher that name. It might be Maxine, or Maxie? Maybe even Madge. Stormy has poor penmanship.

Stormy’s Diary - July 2, 1950
Today I felt peppy. I fought with Mother, Richard and Carol. During Hopalong Cassidy I chewed on Richard’s socks. Then I played with Carol.

These little references to TV shows like Hopalong Cassidy are truly my favorite parts of Stormy’s Diary. It’s a little time capsule. Also: Stormy fought with MOTHER? And he lived to tell the tale, good dog!

Stormy’s Diary - July 1, 1950
Today was Valentine’s Day. I took a valentine to Bonnie I took it over to Shidlers and Richard rang the door-belled.
- Stormy
A-ha! Thank god for holidays or we would never know any of the true dates in Stormy’s Diary. Bonnie is Stormy’s sister, you may recall. Doggie incest!

Stormy’s Diary - June 28, 1950
Today I tried to get Richard’s balloon away from him when Richard played basket-ball. At night Richard and I wrestled with each other. Carol taught me to stay. Twice I didn’t stay and got bawled out.
- Stormy
Frankly, I suspect Stormy exaggerates the “bawling out,” but I think it’s fun that everyone (with the possible exception of my mostly-absent granddad) is taking a hand in raising and training Stormy. He is a real family dog.

Stormy’s Diary - June 27, 1950
Today at 1:00 PM Mother left me in the basement and went away, and it wasn’t until 5:15 P.M. that she got back then at 7:30 P.M. she left me again and didn’t come back until 11:00 P.M. When they got home Richard put me to bed in the basement.

How depressing! Today’s entry reads a little like Stormy’s Life in the Gulag.

Stormy’s Diary - June 26, 1950
Today Richard had his piano lesson, so I didn’t have much to do.
