Lost Angeleno

Weekly wrap-up

Another week has slipped through my fingers with nary a blog entry in sight.  Clearly this is something I need to put on my daily schedule if it’s going to get done.  I started writing one up on Monday night, but after the Hucklebug recording I never got back to it.  That’s all right, you guys are all busy listening to your new CDs anyway, aren’t you?  Let’s wrap the week up.

Biggest total bummer of the week: Also qualified as my lowlight—my guitar class got cancelled, as I mentioned on The Hucklebug.  Just as I was building up momentum!  Well, that gives me another week to practice “Love Me Tender.”

What I Learned on NPR This Week: Morning Edition had an interesting story about little pet turtles, which were banned in 1975 due to widespread salmonella infection—apparently kids loved their turtles so much they were gobbling them whole.  So now lobbyists (pet turtle lobbyists?  really?) are trying to get the ban lifted, since the salmonella scare is over and now the little baby turtles are apparently much less deadly to eat.  Nowhere in the story did anyone say, “And by the way, the kids shouldn’t be EATING their pets anyway!!” I was never tempted to eat my hamsters when I was a child.  Although… I remember in Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Fudge did eat Peter’s turtle, didn’t he?  Maybe that started a craze of turtle-eating across the land.

Most Awesome Thing I Saw on TV: Tony finally put Christopher out of his misery on The Sopranos, and I’m sorry if that’s a spoiler, but if you follow the show and hadn’t heard about this yet, you must be living in a cave and probably don’t read Stennieville.com anyway.  Usually not very good phone signals available in caves.

Least Awesome Thing I Saw on TV: The whole rest of that episode of The Sopranos, which sucked and seemed pointless to me.  Not many episodes left, David Chase & HBO.  Let’s make it worth people’s while out here.

Current earworm: “Goodbye Earl,” by the Dixie Chicks.  It was playing on my iPod this morning when the alarm went off.

Link of the Week: March of the Penguins in Thirty Seconds—Performed by Bunnies.

From This Week’s Mobile Library: Saw a window sticker (a big one, too, covering the entire rear window of a mid-sized sedan) which proudly declared “i luv 2 praise Him.” So I see we’re now relying on AOL IM and text messaging shorthand to get the word out.  Whatever works, I guess, to reach the newbz.  I especially dig the lowercase “i” and uppercase “H” for “Him.” Because i am not important enough to have a capital letter, but He is.

Also, as promised last week, here’s a nice shiny new higher-quality mp3 of Robbie Fulks’s cover of “Believe.” Share and enjoy.
