Stormy’s Diary - June 21, 1950
Today I went on a paper route with RIchard. It was fun. I met 2 dogs. The streets were slushy and watering. Also I went into Pollards grocery store. I almost got in a fight, so Richard took me out to the car. I chewed on a bone.
- Stormy
A very eventful day for Stormy! This is a good time to maybe remind people that the dates printed in the book indicate June, when in fact we’re closer to February of 1950.

I wonder who he almost got into a fight with at a grocery store? Dogs aren’t usually allowed in a grocery. Stormy was breaking society conventions. He was a radical!

I think Stormy got in a fight because he thought the steaks in the meat department were just for anyone, so he started to take some. And the butcher got really mad and started swinging the cleaver around, then Richard got in between them to defend Stormy, and Stormy, thinking Richard was going to get the business end of the cleaver, bared his teeth at the butcher and the butcher said he was calling the dog catcher, so Richard and Stormy shot out of there to the car.
Or Stormy could have meant ‘a fight’ like playing.
