Monty Python double feature
Just in time for Easter, the Beverly Cinema had a Python double feature, including Life of Brian (which I watch every Easter anyway). and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I hadn’t seen Holy Grail in ages, I’d forgotten how much fun it was but I still remembered pretty much all of the bits verbatim. As did an entier family sitting in front of us, who fortunately refrained from speaking all the lines out loud, but you could tell by watching their heads bob back and forth that they were mouthing all the routines to one another. The youngest kid with them was a boy of about seven. I wish my family had taken me to see Monty Python when I was a kid.
Life of Brian is the Pythons’ best overall film, with the strongest story structure (as opposed to a series of sketches, which is what the other two films are, more or less), and the most pointed satire.
Now I have a hankering to watch Meaning of Life again.
